Frequently Asked Questions
Both of our locations - the Woodland Sauna and the Fallen Willow Sauna - offer traditional wood-fired sauna and cold water options for your contrast therapy. The Woodland Sauna has 3 freshwater cold baths, and cold showers, plus an events area for events and wellbeing therapies. The Fallen Willow has a ground-fed lake for cooling off and a mini swim. Both sites are privately located, 2 miles apart, and are ideal to reset, relax, and rejuvenate, set in beautiful idyllic rural locations.
We have basic changing huts for privacy before and after your sauna session (although we do encourage you to arrive ready to sauna). We additionally have two cold showers onsite at Woodland Sauna and a pump shower at the Fallen Willow Sauna. Both sites have toilets.
The lake is regularly maintained and monitored for safety, but we encourage caution and awareness when using the lake. The lake is ground-fed through a spring, so is not connected to our polluted rivers.
Please note, we don't offer just "wild swimming". We have shared use of the lake to cool off with a mini swim or dip as a contrast to your sauna.
No, the Woodland Sauna is on a different site to the Fallen Willow Sauna (about 2 miles by road). However, the luxurious and larger Woodland Sauna, set in a very peaceful woodland, offers 2 cold water showers, 3 "Urban Ice Tribe" freshwater plunge baths, woodland walks, spacious events tent, therapy area and stunning valley views.
We provide authentic wood-fired sauna experiences and events, changing huts for privacy, a refreshing lake at the Fallen Willow Sauna, and plunge baths and showers at the Woodland Sauna for cold contrast therapy.
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your booked session to allow time for a briefing. Note, arriving late will shorten your sauna. 5 minutes has been added, to include time for changing.

Yes you can add water to the stove... this is the best part of your authentic sauna experience to raise the humidity. But please drizzle water with caution, as it temporarily adds extra warmth to the sauna, consulting other members of the sauna before you do so. NOTE, excessive dumping of water on the stove can take the "heat" out of it, and therefore potentially cooling down the sauna.
We suggest 10-20 minutes in the sauna followed by a brief cold plunge, repeating this cycle as desired, while listening to your body's signals.
The plunge cold water baths/showers (woodland) and lake (fallen willow) are designed for your cold water immersion with your sauna, helping to enhance circulation and provide a refreshing contrast to the heat.
Start your session with a 10 minute warm up in the sauna to open up the pores.. then use the cold water on your site, for a cool off, then back in the sauna.. and repeat!
Yes, the lake is regularly maintained and monitored for safety, but we encourage caution and awareness of personal swimming abilities. The lake is also ground-fed and not connected to our polluted rivers. Note, you might be sharing the lake with swimmers from a swimming lesson.
